Batman's cowl has the stylised shape of a bat's head. Bruce Wayne obtained it by ordering ten thousand of them from a Chinese company in order to avoid suspicion. It is made of granite, in the "ear" of which Batman keeps a radio device. Later, Bruce Wayne updates the cowl to a helmet-like headpiece that allows easier head movement.
